Standard Size Barn Quilts

OK you are ready to select a barn quilt. I hope you are as excited as I am! This is what you need to know:

  • Most patterns can be made in four sizes: 4’x4  ($250),  3’x3′ ($200), 2’x2′ ($150) and 18″x18″ ($65).
  • Shipping is available only on the 18″, 2′, and 3′ sizes. The larger sizes are just too expensive to ship with the shipping carrier’s excess size charges added to the already high shipping charges.
  • FOR SHIPPING ACTUAL SIZE on the 2′ barn quilt it is 23″X23″, and the 3′ is 34″X34″. This is to enable them to fit into shipping boxes with corner protection. The 18″ size barn quilts are a full 18″X18″ for shipping.
  • Some patterns can be made in a 5’X5′ ($425), 6’X6′ ($525) or 8’X8′ ($725) size. The 5’x5′ and 6’x6′ would come in 4 panels of equal in size.  No shipping possible for the 8’X8′ size. Contact me through the Contact tab to talk about it.
  • The larger sizes are perfect for the barn, shed or peak of the house. The smaller sizes are perfect for the front porch, shed or gate. They all can go indoors too!
  • Also check out other patterns on the Customer’ Photo tab, there are 3 pages of them! Contact me if you want any of these.
  • Some patterns are made to be hung “square”, some “on point”, some “either way”.
  • All patterns and sizes are “available” but not all are always in stock.  If it is in stock and you intend to pick it up we will arrange a day and time; if you choose to have it shipped (continental USA address only) , it will arrive in about a week. If I need to paint it, allow 4 weeks.
  • When you order through the “SHOP” tab  you can choose to have the barn quilt SHIPPED TO YOUR continental USA address, or by PICKED UP at my studio in Oregonia, Ohio (near Lebanon Ohio, North of Cincinnati- see the contact tab for a map).  If having it shipped, the price of the barn quilt is the same, but your total cost is higher to cover boxing, taxes (Ohio residents) and shipping. You will be paying by credit card through secure Pay Pal.
  • When picking up any size barn quilt at my studio be sure to bring several sheets to wrap it in. When picking up a  4’x4′, 5’x5′, 6’x6′ or 8’X8′ size be sure to bring a van or pickup, several large sheets and tie-downs for the pickup.

Each barn quilt pattern shown below has a story of its own.  Be sure to read the background on each pattern below.  I’ll be adding new ones frequently, so check back often! Retired patterns are still available upon request and can be seen on the Customer Photos tabs.

I just love the history of fabric quilt patterns and they convert so well to barn quilts. Many patterns go back to the 1800’s and are a part of national history.  I hope you enjoy their history as much as I do. Some of the patterns are just plain fun!

OHIO STAR BARN QUILT
The Ohio Star pattern is a simple “9 Patch” quilt block pattern where 4 of the blocks are further divided into triangles making an 8 pointed star. It is made in bright red, white and blue. The pattern has been in use on fabric quilts since 1803 when Ohio became the 17th state of this great nation!  There is much discussion among historians about the actual date in which Ohio became a state, after all the fledgling nation was still trying to figure out how to allow new territories into the newly founded More Perfect Union.

AMERICAN FLAG BARN QUILT
There have been many folk art variations of the American Flag designed.  This one is my own design and has been trademarked. These pattern reflects our patriotism and our cherished American values, and I would love to make one for you! This one is a salute to the Armed Forces made in bright red, white and blue with 5 small stars in the lower right corner representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. The placement of the 5 small stars may vary slightly with the size of the barn quilt.

As we all know, Betsy Ross first designed the flag for George Washington in 1776-1777 but did you know that according to legend she allegedly finalized the design, arguing for stars with five points (Washington had suggested six) because the cloth could be folded and cut out with a single snip.

AMERICAN EAGLE BARN QUILT
This pattern makes you want to salute! With the red and white stripes, a blue field, a brown eagle and a white star this says America! The pattern can be made square or rectangular. For pricing on a rectangular size please reach ne through the Contact form.

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE
I was asked to make this for a retired United States Air Force veteran. I love the way it turned out in bright red, white and blue with a blue border.  What a nice gift for an active duty family or veteran. I DO use stick-on USAF lettering and a stick-on bumper sticker logo for this pattern since the area is too small to paint the logo and letters effectively. They are covered with multiple layers of clear coat for good adhesion. This is only available in the 18′ size (since that is the size of the USAF bumper sticker logo). Due to the stick on logo and lettering I recommend it for indoor use or outdoor use in a protected area.

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE PLUS STAR
I was asked to make this for a retired United States Air Force veteran also. I love the way it turned out in bright red, white and blue with a white border (the border is difficult to see in the picture). What a nice gift for an active duty family or veteran. Since I paint on the USAF logo (rather than use a sticker logo) this is available in the 2′ and larger sizes only. The logo is too intricate to paint on an 18″ barn quilt.

CROSS BARN QUILT
This barn quilt says it all. It can be made in other colors but the cross remains in 3 shades of grey. The picture shows it in burgundy and black with a black border. It is truly gorgeous.

MARINER’S STAR BARN QUILT
A Mariner’s Compass is my all-time favorite design in two shades of red, green and blue.  My most treasured fabric quilt is a Mariner’s Compass from the mid 1800’s. The design is comprised of a star that radiates from the center and usually has 16 points, like a magnetic compass. It is one of the earliest quilting designs in America dating back to the early 1700’s. It is sometimes called a wind rose or compass rose. The first known quilt using this pattern was made in England in 1726 and was later used by women in the “colonies” along the Atlantic seaboard.  The Mariner’s Star is made with points in blues, reds and greens on a white background with blue borders.

MIDNIGHT STAR
The Midnight Star pattern is a variation on the Mariner’s Star pattern. In yellows and deep blue it reminds you of a star in the midnight sky, hence the name.

FOUR FALL LEAVES BARN QUILT

CRESTED BIRDS BARN QUILT
This is the same pattern as the Five Blue Birds Barn Quilt.  Since birds come in many colors, with and without crests I thought a barn quilt with many colored birds would be fun. These birds are crested and stylized. They are “reminiscent” of a Red Cardinal, Yellow Cardinal, Blue Jay, Goldcrest, and Turaco. Ok I took some liberty with the Turaco!
